This is an email from a new film company: Play Nice. Our mission is to support independent film–because somebody has to. You’re getting this email because at some point you signed up on our website, or the website of one of the projects we supported. Maybe the movie TFW NO GF, the NPCC Film Festival we sponsored in NY last October, or maybe even the upcoming documentary Alex's War. Good choice.

Alex's War is the second film by Alex Lee Moyer, who made the sleeper indie hit of 2020 SXSW, TFW NO GF. It was a great little micro-budget doc that garnered wide-spread acclaim for its sensitive treatment of a polarizing subject. So when Moyer said she wanted to make her next film about arguably the most banned man on the internet, the third rail of internet discourse himself, Alex Jones, we were more than excited to help.

We didn’t decide whether to produce this beast of a movie based on whether he’s good, bad, or ugly. At Play Nice, we’re here to help filmmakers make the cool shit that other people won't. The question was whether a talented filmmaker—with a critically acclaimed indie hit under her belt, no less–should be supported in making a film about Alex Jones. Could she ask “Who is Alex Jones?” and just go find out, in the style and approach that interests her. It was an obviously great idea. And not something you’d see happen Netflix. And anyways, Werner Herzog made a doc about a dictator who ate people, for Christ’s sake. I think the world can handle a thoughtful, observant verité documentary about Alex Jones.

At Play Nice, we want to take a defibrillator to a lifeless culture. We want exciting, interesting movies to be made, and that happens by letting talented directors and artists make what interests them, without looking over their shoulder. So we couldn't be prouder to help Ms. Moyer bring her fearless, iconoclastic vision to life, and look forward to sharing other bold projects we are developing.
